Interesting that the scanned form asks whether each member of the household is baptized. I'm not sure how that's relevant to providing assistance in a disaster.

E-mail from friend alerting me to emergency instruction from GB
by Wasanelder Once inhere's a paragraph from a friend who is active.
they say it's important that we fill out this form about emergencies... poor fools.
"hi, i have been meaning to tell you that the society is telling us to fill out an emergency form that the book study conductors have and return it to them in case of an emergency.they will then give us a brochure to have that will tell us where to meet and what to have in our bags so we can grab them and leave in a hurry.

It's like they think women are inferior and incapable of being intelligent and productive in the real world.
Well, yeah, that's pretty much exactly what they think, despite their denials. At least the inferior part.

Anyone else feel like an emotional mutant at this time of year?
by tall penguin ini've been attempting to infiltrate my friend's christmas traditions in an attempt to understand and appreciate the holiday.
i only had christmas until i was 5 when my mom converted to jw.
before that, christmas was really big in our house.

It took me a while to really get into it. Then I had a kid, and that helped.
We're agnostic/atheist (depending on when you ask us) UUs, my daughter's dad is Jewish, and the friend who usually joins us for the holidays is pagan. So we celebrate several holidays. My daughter calls it Chrisolstukkah.

have any of u guys done telemarketing witnessing b4?
by XOCO ini've just started to come up with this random topic in my head and some of good/bad experiences with telephone witnessing.
ive done it b4 but i was so uncomfortable calling ppl and telling them about the bible and stuff.
sometimes the person on the other end of the line would ask me how i got that number ?or how do u know my name?

if someone would answer we would put them on speaker phone without their knowledge
Wow. Like it wasn't already rude enough. That does answer a previous poster's question about whether someone could call time and temperature and pretend to witness. . .

Can You Be Satisfied Just Having Faith
by Undecided ini seem to be overwhelmed with not being satisfied with not knowing the answers to life and the universe.
i can't seem to just accept some ancient writings of mankinds beginning.
to have faith do you just ignore all questions that may be contrary to what you believe?

I can't seem to just accept some ancient writings of mankinds beginning.
Then don't. It's not mandatory. You can be a good person and live a rich and full life without accepting any ancient writings. You can learn valuable lessons from some of those ancient writings without accepting every word of them (or any word of them) as literally true. Ultimately, you have to follow your own path, because faking belief is inherently meaningless.

I think was was taken today
by Elsewhere ini was walking to my car after work, it was very cold (low 40's f) and getting dark and a beggar woman walks up to me sobbing and crying about being cold.
she didn't want to go through another very cold night light last night (low 30's f) and she needed money to get into a local shelter.
yes, it costs $12 per night to get into a homeless shelter... that's texas for ya.

Is There Something Specific That U Regret Not Doing Because You Were A JW?
by minimus indid you want to belong to a social club but couldn't because it was "worldly" and witnesses don't get involved with the world?.
did you not go to college simply because witnesses say it's bad?.
did you deprive your kids of things because you were a "good jw"?.

I wasn't a JW by the time this happened, which makes it worse:
I didn't stand by my DF'd brother when he was was excluded from the "get-together" after my dad's funeral because it was in a JW's home (Dad was not a JW, but Mom was, and the funeral was conducted by one of the Elders). I went to the get-together and had two friends of mine take my brother out after the funeral, and that was cowardly and wrong of me. I should have gone with them. Not only was it wrong for them to exclude him, it was hypocritical for them to exclude him and include me (I'd faded but was not DF'd or DA'd). I rationalized it internally by telling myself that my mom needed me. But my mom had my two other brothers and the "brothers and sisters" of the congregation around her. My brother was alone.

Pentecostals - your views?
by digderidoo ini have been considering attending a meeting at a local pentecostal church and wondered if anyone has any experience of them and would appreciate peoples views.. the only thing that is stopping me attending is the thought of it being another religion.

Pentecostalism at religioustolerance.org: http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_pent.htm
Lots of good information there, including links to some Pentecostal denominations' own website.s
Based on that article, it sounds like the church my friend attended was part of the United Pentecostal Church International, which "holds many non-traditional beliefs, that conflict with other denominations within Pentecostalism," including the dress and hair codes and the prohibitions on movies and television.

A friend of mine, also an ex-JW (her mom left when she was a child), attended a Pentecostal church for a while. The church she attended was pretty strict on things like apperance (women wore long skirts, long-sleeved blouses, high necks, weren't supposed to cut their hair), entertainment, etc. I have no idea if they were typical of Pentecostal chuches.
